Rock Climbing Wall Rental

June 8th, 2009 |

Rock Climbing Wall Rental If you want your party to be extra special this time, you must be wondering how to do it.

An interesting and easy solution is to get a leased rock-climbing wall. A rental rock-climbing wall is a well-liked way to get the party started. It can be used as a charity and a fund raising event as well.

If you are part of an association that puts on a fair of some kind every year, a rental rock-climbing wall is just the right stuff.

It will help you to get people paying attention to you to attend your event.

The rental wall rates vary. The average price can be some $150-$250 per hour. You ought to get all the equipment and gear that you require. You might also need trained staff to help you, and your visitors. If planning is done well, everyone can get the most out of the event with great pleasure.

When you make a decision on a rental rock-climbing wall, it will be transported to your destination. All the required arrangement will be done by the company. The company staff will come, and set the whole equipment.

You can choose different types of wall. It can be a three climber or a five climber. The main issue is the number of climbers it can accommodate at one time. If your event is quite big, and you expect many people to come, a five climber is probably the best choice.

Even a three climber is fine in case you arrange a smaller private party. Do ensure that you have enough space to put up your wall.
Discuss with the company if the wall can be actually accommodated in your yard.
People can really enjoy such a party.

Rock Climbing Terminology

June 4th, 2009 |

Basic Rock Climbing TerminologyIf you get the climbing bug, you are entering a unique niche of people. Much like visiting another country, you need to get down some of the lingo being used.

Much like any sport, climbing has its own terminology. Unlike most other sports, the terminology often does not have an obvious meaning. Here are a few terms you should know.

Anchor - Not the kind you find on a boat. In climbing, the anchor is usually two pieces that support the belay when climbing. What is a belay? Read on.

Belay- The belay is rope anchor system used to provide support for a climber. The belay is often another person who feeds out rope to the climber as he or she makes progress up the climb. The belay is run through a friction system, often a mechanical brake. If the climber falls, the belay system is used to keep them from plunging to the ground.

Basic Rock Climbing Terminology

Bouldering - Pretty much what it sounds like. To practice technique and have a bit of fun, you find large boulders and climb them. The relatively minimal height makes falling less of an issue, but you probably want to throw down some pads to cushion any falls. An excellent way to build up strength in muscles needed for more advanced climbs.

Crimp - Essentially the art of finding a finger hold where there doesn’t appear to be one.Basic Rock Climbing Terminology

Face Climbing - Pretty much what you think. The art of climbing a vertical face using primarily finger holds and edges to work your way up.

Harness - A nylon device worn around the waist and legs and tied off to supporting ropes. The harness is a safety feature everyone should wear.Basic Rock Climbing Terminology

Indoor Climbing- Also known as gym climbing. Most cities have climbing gyms where you can practice on walls inside. Alternatively, you can empty out your basement or garage and build your own. Great way to practice and build up strength.

Leading - The first person up on the climb. Responsible for determining the route, solving problems, placing anchors and so on. Not for beginners.

Pitch - Another term that means something other than what it sounds like. A pitch has nothing to do with the vertical angle of the rock. It is the distance between two belay points.

As with any new sport, you are going to run into far more terms than just these. If you don’t know what something means, just ask. Rock climbing is one of those sports were beginners are universally welcomed and old pros tend to be very friendly.

Basic Rock Climbing Terminology

As much of other sports, the climbing also evolved/moved a single language with the sport that the climbing ones must learn if they want to communicate with climbing rock similar.

Rock Climbing Is Not Just For Men

June 3rd, 2009 |

Rock Climbing Is Not Just For Men

Rock Climbing began as a man’s sport. This has changed in recent years as ever increasing numbers of women have become involved.

The first women climbers were involved in mountain climbing and rock climbing was a part of that. The major difference in mountain climbing and rock climbing is that the mountain climber is seeking the easy way to ascend to the top of the mountain while the rock climber is looking for the hardest way.

However, sometimes rock climbing is the only way on certain sections of the climb. So, when women began to climb mountains, they naturally began to climb rocks as well.

Rock Climbing Is Not Just For Men

The first written record of a female mountain climber was a Miss Pinter who climbed Mt. Blanc in 1799. This feat was recorded by a fellow climber and established the lady as the rock climbing woman pioneer. Although there were other female mountain climbers that followed Miss Pinter, they were mostly the wives or girlfriends of male climbers.

These male climbers usually omitted the names of their female partners when writing of their adventures.

This was because climbing was not seen as a very “seemly” activity for women. In fact, it wasn’t until almost one hundred years after Miss Pinter’s ground breaking ascent that a woman by the name of Meta Brevoot actually got around giving up her dress for trousers when on a climb. This makes you imagine young ladies climbing to the top of alpine peaks in their long flowing dresses with parasols open.Rock Climbing Is Not Just For Men

It was not until the more liberated times in the latter part of the 20th century that women in rock climbing began to come into their own. There were a large number of women’s rock climbing clubs formed during this period and also rock climbing became a part of many of the outdoor programs that were being developed to increase the confidence of females by exposing them to outdoor challenges.

The large numbers of women in rock climbing that have excelled and conquered some of the most difficult and highly rated climbs in the world prove that this sport is not for men only. Although on the whole, men have greater strength than women, they do not always have more stamina. The increase in indoor rock climbing facilities has opened the door to even more women.

It increases confidence and is fun. That is a good combination and the relative safety of the indoor climbing has contributed to a wider acceptance.

Rock climbing technique - weight training, strength, fitness

Many people are turning to indoor climbing for fitness. They may, or may not have ambitions to climb regularly on rock but the indoor climbing environment is a fun adjunct.

Mountain Climbing Experiences

May 29th, 2009 |

mountain climbing

Mountain climbing is a great way to escape the rat race and be one with nature. Alas, your mountain climbing experiences can fade with time. The best way to prevent this is to keep a mountain climbing journal for your adventures.

Mountain Climbing Journals

Take a minute to give some consideration to your most recent mountain climbing experience. What sticks out in your mind? Now think about the first time you ever went mountain climbing.

Undoubtedly, you remember few things about the geography, people you went with, particular mountain climbing routes and spectacular views. The experiences you’ve forgotten are lost to time. If you keep a mountain climbing journal, this won’t be the case.

There are famous instances of people keeping journals throughout time. Of course, Anne Frank’s Diary is the best example. In her diary, Anne kept a running commentary of the two years her family spent hiding from the Nazis. While your mountain climbing experiences better be more lighthearted, keeping a journal will let you remember them as the years pass.

A good mountain climbing journal combines a number of characteristics. First, it should be compact so you don’t have to take up unnecessary space for other things. Second, it should have a case to protect it from rain, spills and so on. Third, the journal should contain blank areas to write your notes. Fourth, the journal should contain cue spaces to remind you to keep notes on specific things. Cues should include:

1. Who you went mountain climbing with,

2. Where you camped and if you enjoyed it,

3. Who you met and contact information for them,

4. The geographic and weather conditions, and

5. Any unique things that occurred while mountain climbing.

6. The routes you took up the mountain and alternatives.

7. Any inside information provided by experienced locals.

At the end of the mountain climbing trip, you should be able to get the following from your journal:

1. Contact information for other climbers you met,

2. Enough detail to provide you or a friend with a guide if you climb the location a second time.

3. Memories to reflect upon years later, and

4. Something to pass on to your friends, children and grandchildren.

To get the most out of your mountain climbing journal, you should write in it just before you climb, as you summit and when you return. Doing so will give you an accurate picture of your thoughts throughout the climb.

Mountain climbing is a great way to commune with nature. Make sure to preserve the experience.
